'Bout Me
The reason I wanted to enroll in this course was more than a simple requirement. I plan on majoring in business with a focus on marketing. After working in Portland for some local start-up businesses I saw the dire need for digital marketing experts. People that know how to reach others, and attract the right audience to their business. Plus I really enjoy working in the start-up environment. It's truly exciting.

I am a business major. When I transfer to Oregon State I plan on having an emphasis on marketing. I originally wanted to be a civil engineer, but then I realized that I strongly dislike rain, dirt, and manhole elevations.

I'm interested in learning how to find out what demographic I should reach out to with my multiple endeavors. Once I figure out how to find my target audience I want to market to them through social media outlets like Instagram, and Facebook.

One of the things I'm passionate about is my music. I love playing the guitar. I'm in two bands, I play for multiple churches, and I want to form a third band. I think my music is fantastic. I want to figure out how to market it to people.

People are in love with the tonal varieties their guitars offer. People can also have their guitars custom built to the customer's specs.  The company's value proposition is to offer beautiful high-end instruments to guitarists. They take core elements of classic guitars and give them a modern twist. Marketing Case Study: Kanye West

Kanye West has been stirring up quite a bit of controversy lately. This has gone past his rant at the MTV Music Awards in 2009. Ye dropped a song called “Lift Yourself” that confused many listeners with the lyrics “Poopity Scoop”. Then he started publicly supporting Donald Trump on Twitter while wearing a “M.A.G.A” hat. Yeezy went on TMZ and said, “400 years of slavery sounded like a choice”. He was recently on SNL and did an interesting rendition of his song “I Love It”, then went into a rant about supporting Trump. The rapper just deleted his Twitter and Instagram on Saturday. Kanye West is a famous rapper.  He was respected on earlier in his career for his production work on “The Blueprint” by Jay-Z. Eventually he got enough of a following to drop an album called “The College Dropout”. His material shifted over the years from a raw and hungry rapper, to a more experimental approach. Topic 2: Marketing in the News

I was interested in the Kaepernick Just do it ad because I got to work up in Portland with some Nike employees, and they we all trying to guess what the ad would be. One of the things we constantly talk about in the workplace is how we're going to "innovate and disrupt". I was so used to seeing innovation in action, I was really craving to see some disruption. Man, did this ad disrupt.  Colin Kaepernick was a football player for the San Francisco 49ers. He wanted to protest black oppression by kneeling during the "Star Spangled Banner". Kaepernick used to sit during, but after talking to Nate Boyer he opted to kneel to try to show respect for current and former military members. Nike's Just Do It ad started in 1998. It was a simple but aggressive slogan that has been etched into marketing history. This was the 30th anniversary for the "Just Do It" slogan, so Nike decided to take a more inspirational and political approach.  Nike’s
