Marketing Case Study: Kanye West

Kanye West has been stirring up quite a bit of controversy lately. This has gone past his rant at the MTV Music Awards in 2009. Ye dropped a song called “Lift Yourself” that confused many listeners with the lyrics “Poopity Scoop”. Then he started publicly supporting Donald Trump on Twitter while wearing a “M.A.G.A” hat. Yeezy went on TMZ and said, “400 years of slavery sounded like a choice”. He was recently on SNL and did an interesting rendition of his song “I Love It”, then went into a rant about supporting Trump. The rapper just deleted his Twitter and Instagram on Saturday. Kanye West is a famous rapper.  He was respected on earlier in his career for his production work on “The Blueprint” by Jay-Z. Eventually he got enough of a following to drop an album called “The College Dropout”. His material shifted over the years from a raw and hungry rapper, to a more experimental approach. I chose to talk about Veritas Guitars this week. Veritas Guitars is a guitar company based in Vancouver, Washington. They make high-end boutique guitars that are currently in high demand. People are in love with the tonal varieties their guitars offer. People can also have their guitars custom built to the customer's specs.  The company's value proposition is to offer beautiful high-end instruments to guitarists. They take core elements of classic guitars and give them a modern twist. Every guitar is deeply crafted to the customer's specific requests.  I checked the company's Facebook reviews to see what people were saying. Most people commented that they loved the attention to detail on their guitars. Their colors and finishes are all flawless. Most customers love how the guitars can cover multiple genres of music as well.
